Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins dies at 24

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins passed away at the age of 24 after being struck by a dump truck last Saturday.

Haskins was struck after attempting to cross I-595 westbound lanes on foot, near the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene and the reasoning behind his decision to cross the highway on foot remains unknown.

Before the accident, Haskins was in south Florida training with several of his Steelers teammates.

Haskins’ wife, Kalabrya Haskins, announced that the family will hold memorial services in both Pittsburgh and his hometown of Rockaway Township, New Jersey, on April 22 and 24.

Haskins was entering his fourth season in the NFL after spending his first three with both the Steelers and Washington Commanders. He was a reserve for the steelers last season and was a primary candidate for the starting quarterback position after Ben Rothlisberger announced his retirement.

Haskins made big strides with the Ohio state buckeyes, where he set Big Ten Conference records as only a redshirt sophomore in 2018. This included his single-season passing yards record of 4,831 and touchdown passing record of 50.

During the 2018 season, he led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record and won the Rose Bowl, while finishing third in voting for the Heisman trophy.
